  • Years Published: About 1948 to 1952
  • Height: Approximately 7½ inches
  • Width: Approximately 3/4 to 1 inch
  • Depth: Approximately 5 inches
  • Dust Jackets: Full-color paper
  • Endpapers: Heavy paper, single color art with shading
  • Page Tops: Single color topstain

           The third format was very similar to the second format, but instead of leather texture it had a smooth grid-like binding. The paper was acid-free since the war-time regulations had been removed.

    Memorable Series Books Beginning in this Format




    Clair Bee

           Clair Bee, "one of the most famous athletes in American collegiate history –– and later a winning coach", started the famous and long-running sports series, Chip Hilton, in 1948.



    Bruce Campbell

           A highly acclaimed and extremely well written series, Ken Holt started in 1949, penned by Sam & Beryl Epstein under the pseudonym of Bruce Campbell. The series contained 18 titles and lasted close to 15 years.
