Chance had brought the Lone Ranger and Tonto into the valley. They had heard of a long-standing feud between two grim, hard pioneers –– Flint Greggson and Tom Carling. It seems there was a disagreement over Carling's right to a silver claim. Both men quarreled about it and the law ruled that it belonged to Carling.

       Now, ten years later, hoping to find a means of bringing about an end to the feud, the Lone Ranger and Tonto return to Durango. But, on the way, they find the dead body of Tom Carling. Who shot him and why? It can't be as obvious as it seems –– or can it?
