In this, the eighth episode, the muckraking, crime-fighting publisher of the Beacon City Star has challenged Ace Cardigan, the power who has Beacon City and everyone in it in his tight-fisted grip. During one year, three sheriffs, under the mistaken impression they were there to maintain law and order, were buried by Cardigan's henchmen.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto ride into Beacon City just after Tom Turner's publishing offices are destroyed and he is nearly killed by Cardigan's gunslingers. The current Sheriff Tweed is a good man turned weak, ruined by liquor and hard times. The townsfolk call him "Tumbleweed" and Ace Cardigan calls his shots. Can the Lone Ranger turn the derelict sheriff into a man again and put a fallen town back on its feet?
