A blast shook the earth and the tall
derrick rocked

Riding Silver and Scout at a leisurely trot along the trail to the little town of Red Butte, Texas, the Lone Ranger and Tonto, his Indian friend, are brought up short by a horrifying sight –– a man, murdered, hanging from a tree alongside the trail. With all the characteristic hatred of crime and injustice that has made him a terror to western outlaws everywhere, the Lone Ranger goes after the murderers of young Jack Collins.

A note found in Jack's pocket leads the Lone Ranger and Tonto to the camp of Jack's brother Dick, who, with his partner, is working desperately to bring in their oil well before the option on their property expires. Unaccountable accidents are happening to delay the work, Dick says, and threats have been received from Slag Ricker and his lawless half-breed gang.

How the Lone Ranger discovers who is behind the murderous "accidents" –– and why –– makes a breath-taking finish to a fast-paced story of the Texas oil fields that every Lone Ranger fan will thoroughly enjoy.
